METHOD RESOURCES

A practical reading guide for better assessments.

Understand the difference between an operational indicator, an Environmental Footprint result and a WEFE research output before interpreting any dashboard.

Why withdrawal is not consumption

Withdrawal describes water taken from a source. Consumption reconciles returns and documented storage or transfers in the relevant basin and period. EF water use is a characterised impact in m³ world equivalent deprived, which requires compatible scarcity factors.

Why electricity savings are not a full footprint result

A pumping upgrade may reduce electricity while changing equipment manufacture, maintenance, lifetime or water stresses. A valid scenario keeps service output aligned and discloses what is outside its boundary.

Why sixteen categories matter

EF single-score arithmetic is only meaningful after all sixteen characterised results are available in the exact expected units and method version. Partial category averages or substituted zeros are not valid substitutes.

Questions to ask any environmental platform

These questions are built into the Footprint Tool workflow and its release gates.

  • Can I inspect every factor source and version?
  • What happens when data are missing?
  • Are operational and life-cycle results labelled separately?
  • Can a reviewer reproduce the run from immutable inputs?
  • Does the platform confuse a research index with an official method?
